Privacy Policy for Akari

1. General Information
This Privacy Policy describes how user information is collected, used, and protected in Akari, developed by lagmx, on every platform where it runs — the mobile application and the desktop application for Windows and Linux. By using Akari, you agree to the practices described in this document. Our commitment is to protect your privacy and be transparent about the handling of your information.
2. Data Collection
We do not collect your personal information. Akari contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or crash-reporting service, and no third-party component that gathers usage data. Nothing you write in the application is transmitted to us.
To provide its task management, routines, and achievement features, the application stores the following on your device:
- Data you provide: Tasks, notes, events, journal entries, custom routines, and interactive story progress.
- Application state: Your settings and preferences, including the graphical theme you select, and your progress within the reward system.
Optional story purchases: If you buy an optional story, the application sends the purchase token issued by Google Play to our server so that it can be verified with Google and the corresponding content returned. That token is used only to answer that single request and is never stored. No account, profile, or personal information is involved in this exchange.
Story licence codes: A story you have already bought can be moved to another device of
yours with a short code, such as AKR-7F3K-9XQ2. The application sends that code to our
server, which checks that it corresponds to a real purchase and returns the content. The code proves
that a purchase exists and nothing else — it is not tied to you, and we do not learn who redeemed it or
on what device.
3. Use of Information
The data stored on your device is used exclusively to:
- Provide and maintain the core functionalities of the application.
- Personalize your experience, including the procedural generation of the story and the reward system.
- Answer you if you contact us for support, using only the information you choose to send us.
4. Data Storage and Protection
Local Storage and Backups: All data related to your tasks, routines, and progress is stored locally on your device by default. The application allows for the generation of backups, which are likewise saved within the storage of the same device. We do not operate any server that receives, reads, or stores your personal information, and we never transmit it to ourselves or to any third party.
Optional Synchronization (Off by Default): If you choose to keep more than one device in sync, Akari offers three optional mechanisms. All of them are disabled until you turn them on, and none of them ever sends your data to us.
- Watched folder: Akari writes a backup file into a folder on your device that you select. If that folder happens to be managed by another application (for example a cloud storage client), that application's own privacy policy governs what it then does with the file.
- Another computer of your own: The desktop application can act as a server for your other devices over your local network. Your data travels from one of your devices to another one of your devices and does not leave your network; no third party, ourselves included, is involved at any point. Pairing is deliberate — you scan a code shown on that computer's screen, type a short code, or accept the computer that the application finds on your own network.
- Your own WebDAV server: Akari uploads and downloads the backup file directly to a server that you specify and control, such as a personal Nextcloud or ownCloud instance. We do not choose, host, operate, or have any access to that server, and its operator's privacy policy applies to the data stored on it.
Encryption: Any data that leaves your device through any of these mechanisms is encrypted on the device beforehand, using AES-256-GCM with a key derived by Argon2id from a password that you choose. That password is never transmitted anywhere; it is held only in your device's secure keystore (Android Keystore, Windows Credential Manager, or the Secret Service on Linux). Synchronization requires such a password and cannot be enabled without one. The destination therefore stores only an encrypted block that neither its operator nor anyone intercepting the connection can read. Your server credentials are likewise kept in the device's secure keystore and are sent only to the server address you configured.
Connections: Akari refuses unencrypted connections and does not follow redirects while carrying your credentials. How the other end is authenticated depends on which end it is. For a WebDAV server on the internet, the connection is made over HTTPS with ordinary certificate validation against public certificate authorities. For another computer of your own on your local network there is no public authority to appeal to, so a different rule applies: that computer generates its own key pair the first time you enable the server, and when you pair with it your device records the fingerprint of that one specific certificate and accepts no other afterwards — the approach SSH uses the first time it meets a host. The connection is still encrypted, and a device that has not been paired is refused.
5. Third-Party Services
Akari may use third-party services (such as Google Play Services) that have their own privacy policies. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Because your data lives on your device and not on our systems, you delete it yourself: uninstalling the application removes it, and the "Settings" section lets you erase your information at any time without uninstalling. If you enabled synchronization to your own server, that copy is under your control and is deleted there. We hold no copy of your data that we could delete on your behalf; if you have any question about this, contact us at the address below.
